Forward-Deployed Engineers (FDEs) embed directly with customers to deploy, integrate, and adapt a company's software inside the customer's real environment — part software engineer, part solutions architect, part trusted technical advisor. As AI products move from demo to production, the FDE has become one of the fastest-growing roles at AI companies: someone who turns a general model or platform into something that actually works against a specific customer's messy data and workflows. This board aggregates open Forward-Deployed Engineer roles daily from company ATS feeds and links straight to the original posting.

Forward-Deployed Engineer — FAQ

What is a Forward-Deployed Engineer?
A Forward-Deployed Engineer (FDE) is an engineer who works directly with a company's customers to implement, customize, and operate its software in the customer's own environment. The role blends hands-on software engineering, solutions architecture, and customer-facing problem-solving, and usually involves significant time embedded with the client.
What does a Forward-Deployed Engineer do?
FDEs deploy and integrate the product into customer systems, build custom solutions and integrations on top of the core platform, troubleshoot production issues, and act as the technical bridge between the customer and the company's product and engineering teams — owning the customer's success from prototype through reliable production use.
How much does a Forward-Deployed Engineer earn?
Compensation varies widely by company, level, and location. In the US, mid-to-senior FDE roles commonly fall in the rough range of $150k–$250k+ in total compensation, often with equity; figures depend heavily on the employer. Check each posting for its stated range.
Which companies hire Forward-Deployed Engineers?
Palantir popularized the title, and the role has since spread across AI companies and startups — for example OpenAI, Anthropic, Databricks, and many earlier-stage AI product companies. This board tracks open FDE roles across companies hiring through public ATS feeds.
Forward-Deployed Engineer vs. Solutions / Sales Engineer — what's the difference?
Sales and solutions engineers focus mainly on the pre-sale: demos, scoping, and technical pre-sales support. FDEs are primarily post-sale and build: they write and ship code, deliver custom integrations, and own the deployment working in production inside the customer's environment.
